Young Composers' Competition 2025

We're very excited to announce the second iteration of our Young Composers' Competition! First run alongside our 2023 Opera Festival, the Competition gives a young Cumbrian composer the opportunity to have their work performed by professional opera soloists, receive a professional recording of their work, and have free mentoring session from our Associate Composer Jen Hartley.

This year, the winning composition will be heard at our touring Night at the Opera series, visiting Barrow, Appleby, and Keswick as part of the Cumbria Opera Festival 2025.

To apply, applicants need to be aged 25 or under on the 31st August 2025, and need to be from or based in Cumbria. To submit an application, simply write to cumbriaoperagroup@gmail.com with:

- An example of a previous composition, for any instruments or voices (NB: you do not need to write a new composition specially for this application!).
- A short CV or biography.
- Why you would like to be considered for this opportunity, and how it would benefit your fledging musical career.

The Deadline for Submissions is 30th April 2025.
